K-12 Programs

DOBSON MONTESSORI SCHOOL
K-12 Kindergarten, Elementary, Jr. High, High School

As children progress through each level of the Montessori program...Kindergarten, Elementary, Jr. High, High School...they gain more and more "layers of advantage".

Students are grouped in classes of three year age spans.  Kindergarten includes 4-6 year olds, primary is for 6-9 year olds, intermediate includes 9-12 year olds, upper division focuses on 12-15year olds, and the high school program finalizes the program for 15-18 year olds. Teachers remain with their students through each three year level providing a consistent and well developed learning plan individualized to meet the needs of each child.

Nestled in an acre and half citrus orchard, all our students enjoy spacious, open classrooms with windows opening to trees and nature.  The natural playground features a two-story tree-house and interactive structures where the play is in the child.  There is an open-air amphitheater for drama productions and parent programs, organic gardens, animal yards with goats, chickens, and tortoises for children to feed and nurture, elective classes, monthly field trips, foreign language, computers, art programs including ceramics which are fired in our school kiln, research experiences, camping trips, the highest standards in academic excellence, and 1-8 teacher student ratios. While we are very proud of holding top test scores year after year, we are even more proud of the wonderful, engaged, caring, confident children that make up our school community.

Best of all?  Our students love school and learning and are part of a community where friends are made for life!  Rather than memorizing facts for a test at the end of the week, students learn how to learn, think, and find the joy of learning for a lifetime!

Kindergarten
Individualized academics with emphasis on hands-on materials, phonics for sound reading foundations, manipulatives in math, science experiments, socialization skills, sense of community, animal care, cooking, practical life, monthly field trips, music, art, and more!

Elementary

Upper Division
7th-9th grade students work at advanced levels through hands-on experiences in shared inquiry literature study groups, individualized math learning, advanced art including gallery showings, Shakespeare Festival performance at the Chandler Art Center, STEM, foreign language, overnight camping trips, travel experiences (past trips have included New York to study art and drama, Chicago to study architecture, Washington DC to study history and government) team and leadership, entrepreneurial training, music, and more.

High School
The natural culmination of the Montessori education is the high school program. Beginning in 10th grade, students participate in concurrent enrollment classes with Rio Salado Jr. College and earn transferable college credits while completing class work.   They engage in mentored learning course work, compete in the National Shakespeare Competition in Utah for five days, exhibit original art work in local galleries, complete self-designed community service projects, work with professionals in field study lab experiences, develop economic expertise through entrepreneur projects, participate in filmmaking, host leadership workshops, participate in in-depth research, discussion and inquiry based reading, writing and presentation work, and do advanced science lab investigations.  They visit sites during overnight field trips to enhance their learning. We consider 100% of our students to be college bound and prepare them not only to be successful in life but to be happy, joyful, contributing members of society.
